Medieval Cultures
The Rich and Colorful Tapestry of Life...
To populate your world, you will need to create several cultures. You will
explore real medieval cultures, and use those cultures
as a basis or source of ideas for the cultures you create in your world.
What You Need To Do:
- Choose several medieval cultures to explore, using the web sites listed
below.
- Once you have found a culture that interests you, search for more
resources
on that culture within the web sites listed on this page. You
may also want to search the web for more resources on the cultures you
have chosen, after you exhaust the resources here.
- Use what you have learned as a starting point for creating your
own cultures to populate your world.
- Write a description of each culture you develop, noting what
cultures you
have drawn on in developing each culture.
- Draw a member of the culture, in traditional costume.
Each Culture You Develop Will Need:
- Language
- Names of People and Places
- Cultural Traditions
- Religion and Beliefs
- History (just the most important events; this can be written in the form
of a timeline)
- Myths (you don't have to write them all, but you should think about what
the plots of some of the common mythological stories told by the group
are)
- Traditional Clothing
- Traditional Foods
- Geographical Areas that the culture is associated with
- Any defining physical characteristics
