About The Art For All Library Programs

As a result of our research and early planning state, the Art for All task force proposes to implement a two year Visual Arts program that will include a series of art education and appreciation programs designed to celebrate and promote the role of art in our lives. These programs will bring together teachers, local artists, community business owners, librarians, parents, and children to share their own artistic talents and enthusiasm for all types of visual art with their neighbors. Below is a detailed plan of all of the programs we would like to put on during the first two years of the program. At the end of the two year period, we will assess the impact this series of programs has had on the community of Othello with a host of qualitative and quantitative measures, including event attendance, enthusiasm and return rate of attendees, and satisfaction of our stakeholders and sponsors in the programs.

Proposed Programs

Installation of Public Art:
Three separate artworks designed by local artists will be installed in the library and its environs. Funded through a Paul G. Allen Family Foundation Grant.

Art Exhibitions:
Works of art by local artists and students at local schools, including advertised receptions at "openings" featuring talks by artists.

Arts and Crafts Workshops:
Arts and crafts workshops with an emphasis on native arts and arts of local and migrant populations. Art supplies provided by the library. Spanish language instruction offered.

"New Life For Old Books" Program:
Artists from local high schools create new covers for old books and classics to increase visibility and circulation of old books as well as foster artistic abilities of local young adults.

Annual Arts Festival:
One week annually featuring lectures, special workshops and displays, and an auction of art by local artists to benefit the library.

"Meet the Artist" Program:
For elementary aged children; volunteers give presentation as famous artists about their lives and works.
