MLK Day and Black History Month book displays. Gathered old book lists from teachers, organized into binders, recycled excess copies. Started building file of African American books for Online Bookmarks (topical book lists - related to class projects & general reader's advisory) project.

Student wanted good read from Black History Month display 5. Books on Great Depression, for teacher working with class of students with low reading levels.

 

Talked to students about what they would like to see happen in the library for Black History Month (in addition to standard book displays), e-mailed social studies teachers about same (some ideas I had included showing related movie in library, poetry jam). Worked on Bookmarks Project.

Roving Reference: 1. Same teacher as on 1/18/05 needed books about Prohibition and Great Depression for students with low reading levels - to help them understand historical period of other books they were reading 2. Many students requesting books on illicit drugs for Psychology elective class - students must choose a controlled substance to research the effects, addictiveness, health issues, and addiction treatment

 

Created suggested reading lists (poetry, fiction, biography, and history) for Black History Month display. Bookmarks list for African Americans completed  and waiting to be translated into HTML document. Learned how to operate digital camera and transfer images to computer.

Roving Reference: 1. Helped student learn to use MLA format and create sources cited list for a paper.

New Latin America assignment, short end of term project - students must select a Latin American country, do some basic research on it and write a short report (2 pages): several classes. Helped students find resources for this project. Searched for lists of books set in Asia (on Internet), in preparation for upcoming class assigment.

Scanned book cover images and finished Black History Month display.

Roving Reference: 1. Books on Van Gogh - needed a print of the painting depicting a café, found a print in one of the Van Gogh art books, also more material shelved in with bio. 2. Books on drawing. 3. Noticed student looking up answers for homework involving anatomy questions online - showed them better print reference sources we had on anatomy and told them that they might find it easier to find the answers there

 

Helped Brenda transfer video project (student work for a class project) from digital video camera to VHS tape. Helped with sending out end of term overdue notices.

American Studies, informative speech research: 3 classes. Put together book cart for new World Studies project - students must research and write about the influence of an idea or invention on Western culture.

Had to change date of Poetry Jam from 2/15/05 to 3/8/05 because of scheduling conflicts. Sent out e-mails to teachers about Poetry Jam, put notes and flyers to hang in their classrooms in their mailboxes.
